Backbone's primary weapon is a salvaged saddle cannon called "Huge Mac", rumored to have once belonged to a famous Equestrian soldier. The cannon is too heavy for most ponies to lift.
A young male unicorn Backbone originally kidnaps so he can teach Skully "magic and stuff". He eventually becomes a voluntary travelling companion, though he often decries the conditions and situations Skully is exposed to through her association with Backbone. A major plot event involves Bacon's plot to kidnap Skully to deliver her to a better home.
